Spirit of the Night

Set the scene. It’s a moonlit night out and storm filled clouds are creeping over the sky. There you are sitting on a bench, staring up into the dark blue sky filled with bright stars. There’s the moon, the most rich with light you’ve ever seen it. Wait! What was that? Could it be a face? No, that’s impossible, or is it? Sure enough, there is a face up there in the night sky,  full of blues and dark purples. You have just spotted the spirit of the night. That’s why I decided to name this painting the Spirit of the Night. I think this painting can lead to many different stories. To complete this painting I used acrylic paints and I drew on a canvas board. This painting did take a couple of weeks, for I did have to draw the face and make the glowing effect of the moon. Another thing I had to do was layer the sky. I really wanted it to be a very rich, dark blue, so I went through and made sure there were no unpainted spots. This painting is different and full of mystery, that’s why I like it so much.

Musical Wonders

There are many wonders in the world. Global wonders, mental wonders, and any other thing you may stumble on and be curious about. These two cats here are definitely curious about the musical tones they’re hearing. Possible thoughts running through their mind could be: where is the sound coming from? Who is making the sound? Little do they know a little bird is perched up in the tree chirping away in the sunlight. This is my drawing called Musical Wonders. The material I used were oil pastels. This task wasn’t easy or short. I had to color the whole drawing with two layers of different colors. Then, I scratch through it with a scratchblade. This reveals a hidden drawing full of mystical and vibrant colors. It was definitely an interesting experience to try out this new style of art, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Beloved Angry Birds

Angry Birds: The 2011 video game that has everybody talking! Whenever I go into the city I always find people of every age with their eyes glued to their phone. From iPhones and iPod touches to other cell phones and devices, everyone has purchased the addicting game: Angry Birds! How could I not do a drawing of it? So, yes I went into art class and I took on the fun challenge to create an Angry Birds scene.  I used colored pencil for all the detail, and chalk pastels for the background. I took my favorite birds: red, blue, and yellow, and incorporated them into the drawing. I wanted to make it as realistic as possible, so I included the pigs and all of the background details. Surprisingly, this drawing only took two days.  Perhaps, I just got into the spirit of things. The reason that I did this drawing was because, well it’s popular, but that wasn’t the only reason. I also wanted to do it because I have done so many literal drawings. For example, animals in normal positions and landscape how it truly looks. Well, I wanted to change things up this time. I decided to do a ‘for fun’ drawing instead. Something, not literal, but instead fantasy. I hope that this drawing provoked you to play Angry Birds if you’re not already addicted to it. This Angry Birds drawing really was a blast and it showed a lot of creativity!

Scarlet Feathers

Perhaps, the majestic beauty birds project was my inspiration for this piece. Or maybe it was just because I love birds. I don’t really care what kind of bird it is, all of them inspire me to create beautiful works of art. This year I entered this piece, Scarlet Feathers, in an art contest. Students of different grades enter their own pieces and later on get their scores. First place winners get the pleasure of having the art work live auctioned while second place and third place winners get silent auctioned. I received second place this year for my piece. Surprisingly enough, this Scarlet Feathers was auctioned off LIVE!!!!!!! This was a big surprise to everyone, especially that it was auctioned off for 600 dollars. At the start people were bidding for my piece, and then at the last second my father bid on it for 600 dollars! That was an amazing night for me, and I will remember it forever. Now, I used colored pencils and chalk for this drawing. Why? Well, I love colored pencils and I think it really brings out a special feature in the artwork. Plus, it is easiest to work with. I used chalk for the background as you can see. I used multiple shades of purple and blue for this aspect of the piece. I think the chalk and color choice fit in beautifully with the piece. I really love art and I hope to continue it for many more years. The next art contest better get ready, because I am coming back next year!

Otter

Out in the world, the icy world. Alone, always hiding from predators and harm in the freezing cold. For otters, this isn’t their world. As my piece expresses, they are also very happy creatures. They want to play with you and have fun. Not hide in the water from the world, no, that is not how they live. I really love animals and it is hard to go on without them. I must have a pet with me at all times as I go on through life, no matter how big or small they are. I love them especially when their happy, and I think you would agree that this otter looks very gleeful. I categorized this piece as unknown because embarrassingly I cannot remember the name of the tool I used. I made this many years ago so it has been a very long time. This etching means a lot to me, and I hope this captured the heart of you too and put a big grin on your face. It made me very happy when I looked at it after I finished it, I was extremely proud!

Dolphins at Dawn

Don’t you just love dolphins? They put a smile on faces everywhere. From their smiling faces, to their graceful swimming. Everything about dolphins is appealing. The great thing about this painting in my opinion, is the sky. Just how the two colors blend into each other naturally. That was my goal for this sky. I used oil paint for especially that reason. Oil paint is pretty cool because you can use you fingers to blend in two colors and to erase anything. My main focus of this piece was to capture the movement and shading of the dolphins. It took about a day just to do the moms shading. I had to erase and consistently reapply paint and paint and PAINT!! After the dolphins and sky were done, I moved on to the water. I got dark at the back and lighter at the front. Shading was very important in this part of the piece. As you can see the water has many different styles of blue. Dark to light is the key to most paintings. After the water I polished up this painting with the splash. I didn’t even now how to approach this task, but I managed to get a reasonable finished product. I think Dolphins at Dawn really captures the essence of shading and coloring.

The Evil Gargoyle

I know you don’t know this about me: I believe in ghosts, vampires, werewolves, aliens, and much more of that kind of stuff. There is something so interesting about them. Fascinating things that most people don’t believe in. I do believe that gargoyles work. They scare off ghosts and such. That was the inspiration of this drawing. Yes, I know what your thinking. I could of colored it. I am the type of artist that likes to keep my drawing just as sketches. Just plain black and white. I wanted to give a little bit more texture to it so I did this in ink. It was very frustrating. I had to dip my pen into the ink every single second (I was terrible at using ink.) I feel like this turned out well though. I think it shows how I am not always the same, but instead different from everyone else. Something that is just keeping you from fitting in. I think this gargoyle shows that. Now, I know you think this is a dragon. It is not. It is a mixture of a lizard, a dragon, a squirrel, and a dinosaur. I really think this drawing is different from all of the others.

Fruit In Still Art

Still art is not easy. It takes practice and patience. I really wanted to do it because before I did this drawing I did a lot of sketches. All of them were still art. I decided to do fruit and veggies because I really love them. Especially, the pumpkin and the eggplant. It reminds me of the school garden. It is at my school and I go there a lot. We grow many fruits and vegetables there. I also decided to put in some vases. A bright one and a dark one. A sad one and a happy one. I decided to do this in colored pencil because I thought it would look cool. It was a bad decision because it hurt my hand a lot. I have to admit, doing the tablecloth was the best part. Don’t get me wrong though it was difficult. Doing this drawing definitely taught me a lot!

Mr. Pooch

I really love dogs. Not all dogs, but I do love most of them. When I saw the model that I used for this sculpture I really loved the dog. It reminds me of all the happy times, and somewhat the sad times. I really wanted a brown dog. I think of those dogs as bold. I also thought I needed to name this dog so I called him, Mr. Pooch. As you can probably guess, this is done in clay. I had not done clay in a while so I really wanted to try it again. First of all, you have to make the body. Most of the time it is an oval shape. Next, you add on the head and all of the heads features. Then the feet and the tail. After all of that you bake it. Lastly, you paint it and call it your own. See, Mr. Pooch is a lot of fun!

Evelyn Self Portrait

I love a challenge! This drawing was one of them. I wanted to take on something new.  A girl in my art class inspired me to do a self-portrait. I saw how lovely and cool it was. I wanted to do one right away. Luckily, I had my art teacher there to help me. I thought this drawing would do well in chalk and colored pencils. This was really hard because I had to get every detail in there. I loved doing this, but I also hated some parts. Like, the nose. The nose was really hard. I had to erase it 5 times before I got it right! It was all worth it though because this drawing turned out great!
